Overhead Stainless Steel Tube Optical Fiber Composite Ground Wire OPGW Cable

Overhead Fibre Optic Cables shall be 24 core OPGW (Optical Ground Wire). The opgw optical ground wire is proposed to be installed on the transmission line 400kV IBTPS -Meramandali of Orissa Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (OPTCL). The design of cable shall account for the varying operating and environmental conditions that the cable shall experience while in service. The exact transmission line details shall be collected by the Contractor during survey.       
Several different styles of OPGW are made. In one type, between 8 and 48 glass optical fibers are placed in a plastic tube. The tube is inserted into a stainless steel, aluminum, or aluminum-coated steel tube, with some slack length of fiber allowed to prevent strain on the glass fibers. The buffer tubes are filled with grease to protect the fiber unit from water and to protect the steel tube from corrosion, the interstices of the cable are filled with grease. The tube is stranded into the cable with aluminum, aluminum alloy or steel strands, similar to an ACSR cable. The steel strands provide strength, and the aluminum strands provide electrical conductivity. For very large fiber counts, up to 144 fibers in one cable, multiple tubes are used.           

1. Central Tube Optical Ground Wire (OPGW)

The Central Tube opgw optical ground wire is surrounded by single or double layers of aluminum clad steel wires(ACS) or mix ACS wires and aluminum alloy wires. are the most widely used cables, their esign is fully adapted to the most common electric line needs.

2. Stranded Optical Ground Wire (OPGW)

The Stranded Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) is stranded by double or three layers of aluminum clad steel wires(ACS) or mix ACS wires and aluminum alloy wires.

4.Aluminum Tube OPGW

  • 3.Short circuit current has small effect on the optical fiber transmission properties.
  • 4.Good anti-lightening performance.
